Canceling your subscription
Canceling moves your library back to the Free plan at the end of your current billing period. Your books, members, and history stay put — only the paid features and capacity above Free limits go away.
Who Can Cancel
Section titled “Who Can Cancel”Only the library owner can cancel the subscription (not other admins).
How to Cancel
Section titled “How to Cancel”- Open Manage → Admin Dashboard → Settings → Plan & billing
- Tap Cancel Subscription (or Manage Subscription) — this opens our secure billing portal in a new tab
- Confirm the cancellation in the portal
Your paid plan stays active until the end of your current billing period, then the library moves to Free automatically. The billing portal also handles refund eligibility and any retention offers.
Why the portal? Our billing provider (Paddle) owns cancellation so refunds, payment-method updates, and invoice history all live in one place. Plan changes (switching between paid tiers) stay in the app under Change Plan.
When the Cancellation Takes Effect
Section titled “When the Cancellation Takes Effect”Cancellations apply at the end of your current billing period — not immediately. You paid for the period, so you get to use it.
- You’ll keep your current plan’s features and limits until that date
- After that date, your library drops to the Free plan automatically
- We don’t issue refunds for the unused portion of a paid period (outside the 14-day refund window — see below)
You’ll see the end date on the Plan & billing page (a scheduled-cancellation banner).
What Happens to Your Library
Section titled “What Happens to Your Library”Your data is not deleted. When your subscription ends, the library moves to the Free plan — capacity and features match what’s listed on the Pricing page.
If your library is already within those Free limits, the transition is seamless.
If You’re Over the Free Limits
Section titled “If You’re Over the Free Limits”If your library has more books or active members than the Free plan capacity limits when the subscription ends, you enter a 14-day grace period:
- A banner appears showing exactly what’s over the limit
- The library still works normally during the grace period
- During those 14 days, reduce usage (remove books or active members) or subscribe to the plan that fits those needs.
After 14 days, if you’re still over Free limits, the library is frozen: most library actions are blocked (new books, invites, loans, and similar). You can still return active loans, remove books or members to get under limits, export data, and open Plan & billing to upgrade. Resubscribing unfreezes the library — no data is deleted.
Reactivating Your Subscription
Section titled “Reactivating Your Subscription”You can resubscribe any time:
- Go to Manage → Admin Dashboard → Settings → Plan & billing
- Pick Growth or Plus in the plan selector
- Tap Upgrade Plan and complete checkout
Archived reading plans and similar items tied to your tier can be reactivated when you’re back on a paid plan that allows them. You don’t need to recreate your library from scratch.
Refund Policy
Section titled “Refund Policy”Agathos Books offers a 14-day money-back guarantee on your first subscription purchase. If you cancel and request a refund within 14 days of your initial purchase:
- Email [email protected] from your account email
- Include “Refund Request” in the subject line
- We’ll process the refund through Paddle (our payment provider) within 14 days
After the 14-day window, we don’t issue refunds for the unused portion of paid periods. Exceptional circumstances (billing errors, extended outages) are reviewed case by case — reach out and we’ll help.
When a refund is processed, the library is downgraded to Free immediately rather than waiting for the period to end.
