Privacy and Your Data

Learn how Agathos Books handles your personal information and how you can control your privacy.

What We Collect

Account Information

  • Email address or phone number — For sign-in and notifications
  • Display name — Shown to library members
  • Profile photo — Optional, shown to library members

Library Activity

  • Books you own — Your personal collection
  • Libraries you’ve joined — Membership records
  • Lending history — Books borrowed and lent
  • Reading activity — Books you’ve marked as reading/finished (if enabled)

Usage Data

  • App usage — How you interact with the app (for improvement)
  • Device information — Basic device details for troubleshooting

What We Don’t Collect

  • Camera images — Barcode scanning is processed on your device; images aren’t sent to servers
  • Location tracking — We don’t continuously track your location
  • Contacts — We don’t access your phone contacts

Who Sees Your Information

Library Members See

  • Your display name
  • Your profile photo
  • Books you’ve shared with their library
  • Your reliability score
  • Reading activity you’ve chosen to share

Library Members Don’t See

  • Your email address or phone number
  • Your personal book collection (unless shared)
  • Your activity in other libraries
  • Private notes on books

Library Admins Additionally See

  • Lending activity within their library
  • Join request details

Privacy Controls

Reading Activity

Section titled “Reading Activity”

Control whether others see what you’re reading:

  1. Go to Settings → Privacy
  2. Toggle Share Reading Activity on/off

When off, your reading won’t appear in library activity feeds.

Library Visibility

Choose what libraries can see about your activity:

  1. Open a library
  2. Tap Settings → Privacy
  3. Adjust visibility for that specific library

Profile Visibility

Section titled “Profile Visibility”

Your profile is only visible to members of libraries you’ve joined. People outside your libraries cannot find you by searching.

Data Export

Section titled “Data Export”

Download a copy of your data:

  1. Go to Settings → Privacy
  2. Tap Download My Data
  3. You’ll receive an email with a link to download your data

Your export includes your profile, books, lending history, and library memberships.

Data Deletion

To delete all your data and close your account, see Deleting your account.

Third-Party Services

Section titled “Third-Party Services”

We use trusted third-party services for:

  • Email delivery — To send notifications
  • Book data — To look up book information when you add books
  • Image hosting — To store book covers and profile photos

These services only receive the minimum data needed for their function.

Security

  • Encrypted connections — All data transmitted over HTTPS
  • Secure storage — Data stored with encryption at rest
  • No passwords — We use email/SMS verification, not passwords
  • Session management — Automatic logout after extended inactivity
