Using Tags

Tags let you add personal labels to your books for flexible, custom organization.

Tags are short labels you create and assign to books. Unlike categories (which are broad classifications), tags can be anything meaningful to you:

  • “read-in-2024”
  • “book-club”
  • “gift-from-grandma”
  • “vacation-read”
  • “to-donate”

Tags are personal to your collection—other people don’t see your tags.

  1. Open a book in your collection
  2. Tap Edit
  3. Find the Tags section
  4. Type a tag name and tap Add
  5. Repeat for additional tags
  6. Tap Save

You can add as many tags as you like to each book.

To find books with a specific tag:

  1. Go to My Books
  2. Tap Filter
  3. Select one or more tags
  4. Only matching books are shown

You can combine tag filters with categories and other filters for precise searches.

Go to your collection filters to see all tags you’ve created. Each tag shows how many books use it.

  1. Open the book
  2. Tap Edit
  3. Find the tag in the Tags section
  4. Tap the X next to the tag
  5. Tap Save

Tags with no books assigned are automatically cleaned up. If you want to remove a tag entirely, just remove it from all the books using it.

Tracking reading:

  • “read-2024,” “read-2025”
  • “currently-reading”
  • “want-to-read”

Source tracking:

  • “gift,” “borrowed,” “purchased”
  • “library-sale,” “thrift-store”

Lending notes:

  • “ok-to-lend,” “never-lend”
  • “loaned-to-john”

Personal organization:

  • “favorites,” “reference”
  • “kids-can-read,” “adult-only”
  • “signed-copy”
  • Keep tags short — They’re easier to scan and select
  • Be consistent — Use “2024” or “twenty-twenty-four,” not both
  • Use tags for temporary notes — Unlike categories, tags are great for short-term tracking like “to-read-this-month”
