Using Tags
Tags let you add personal labels to your books for flexible, custom organization.
How Tags Work
Section titled “How Tags Work”Tags are short labels you create and assign to books. Unlike categories (which are broad classifications), tags can be anything meaningful to you:
- “read-in-2024”
- “book-club”
- “gift-from-grandma”
- “vacation-read”
- “to-donate”
Tags are personal to your collection—other people don’t see your tags.

- “currently-reading”
- “want-to-read”
Source tracking:
- “gift,” “borrowed,” “purchased”
- “library-sale,” “thrift-store”
Lending notes:
- “ok-to-lend,” “never-lend”
- “loaned-to-john”
Personal organization:
- “favorites,” “reference”
- “kids-can-read,” “adult-only”
- “signed-copy”
- Keep tags short — They’re easier to scan and select
- Be consistent — Use “2024” or “twenty-twenty-four,” not both
- Use tags for temporary notes — Unlike categories, tags are great for short-term tracking like “to-read-this-month”
