Using Reading Plans

Join reading lists and challenges created by your library, or set personal reading goals to stay motivated.

Library administrators create two kinds of reading plans:

TypeHow It Works
Reading ListA set of specific books to read — either in order or in any order you choose
Reading ChallengeA goal to work toward — like reading a certain number of books or reading every day for a month

Reading plans appear in several places:

  • Home page — Active plans you’ve joined and available plans from your libraries
  • Library page — Plans created by that library’s admins
  • Book detail page — A banner if the book is part of an active plan

  1. Tap on a reading plan card to see its details
  2. Review the books or goal
  3. Tap Start Reading (for reading lists) or Join the Challenge (for challenges)
  4. The plan appears on your home page and your progress starts tracking

How progress works depends on the plan type:

Reading Challenges (book count):

  • Your progress updates automatically whenever you complete any book
  • You don’t need to do anything special — just keep reading

Reading Challenges (daily streak):

  • Any reading activity on a given day counts toward your streak
  • Progress updates automatically

Reading Lists (ordered):

  • You must complete books in the listed order
  • Tap Mark Complete when you finish each book
  • The next book unlocks automatically

Reading Lists (any order):

  • Complete the books in whatever order you prefer
  • Tap Mark Complete on each book as you finish it

You can also set personal reading goals that are separate from library plans:

  1. Go to My Goals from your home page
  2. Tap Create Goal
  3. Choose a type — read a number of books, or read specific books
  4. Set your target and date range
  5. Your progress tracks automatically as you read

Your home page shows a progress ring, pace indicator (“On track” / “Behind pace”), and your current reading streak.

If you no longer want to participate in a library reading plan:

  1. Open the plan’s detail page
  2. Tap Leave Plan
  3. Your progress is removed
  • Book count challenges track automatically — you don’t need to manually mark anything
  • Personal goals are free for all users, while library plans may require a subscription tier
  • Completing a plan triggers a celebration in the app and posts to the library’s activity feed
