Managing Library Members

Keep your library organized by approving new members, adjusting roles, and removing members when needed. You need to be a library owner or admin to use these tools.

  1. Open your library and tap Manage in the top right.
  2. Tap Admin Dashboard.
  3. In the admin sidebar, open People, then the Members tab.

You’ll see everyone in the library with their name, role, and join date. Use search, the role filter, and sort options to find someone quickly.

When someone requests to join your public library, you’ll get a notification.

To respond:

  1. Tap the notification, or go to ManageAdmin DashboardPeopleRequests. (If you have pending requests, Manage may also list them as a shortcut.)
  2. Review the request—the person’s name and any message they included.
  3. Tap Approve or Reject. The requester is notified either way.

Private libraries use invitations instead—see Promoting your library and Inviting members.

For private libraries—or to invite someone to a public library—use Promote in the admin panel: email invitations, auto-join links, or your shareable library page. See Promoting your library for details.

Only the library owner can promote someone:

  1. ManageAdmin DashboardPeopleMembers
  2. Tap the member to open their profile (or use the menu on their row)
  3. Tap Make Admin and confirm

Your plan may limit how many admins you can have. If you hit the limit, you’ll see an upgrade prompt.

See Understanding member roles for what admins can do.

Only the owner can remove admin privileges:

  1. ManageAdmin DashboardPeopleMembers
  2. Tap the admin
  3. Tap Remove Admin and confirm

They stay a regular member.

Owners can remove any member except themselves. Admins can remove regular members but not other admins or the owner.

  1. ManageAdmin DashboardPeopleMembers
  2. Tap the member, or open the menu on their row
  3. Tap Remove and confirm

What happens:

  • They lose access to the library right away
  • They can request to join again (public libraries) or need a new invite (private libraries)

Who you cannot remove:

  • The library owner
  • Another admin (only the owner can remove admins)

Active loans and shared books: Removing someone does not block on active loans the way leaving a library does. Their shared books may still appear in the catalog until you remove those titles from inventory. Resolve any open loans with them before removing them if you want a clean handoff.

On the People page, the Trusted tab lists members whose book submissions can skip the review queue when your library uses auto-approval rules. This feature depends on your subscription plan.

  • Respond to join requests promptly—a quick yes makes a great first impression
  • Use admins for large libraries—share approving requests and managing books
