Managing Library Members

Keep your library organized by approving new members, adjusting roles, and removing members when needed.

To see everyone in your library:

  1. Open your library
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Tap Members

You’ll see a list of all members with their name, role, and when they joined.

When someone requests to join your public library, you’ll receive a notification.

To respond to a join request:

  1. Tap the notification or go to SettingsJoin Requests
  2. Review the request (you’ll see the person’s name and any message they included)
  3. Tap Approve to add them as a member, or Decline to reject the request

If you decline, you can optionally include a reason. The requester will be notified of your decision.

For private libraries (or if you want to proactively invite someone to a public library):

  1. Open your library
  2. Tap SettingsInvite Members
  3. Enter the person’s email address
  4. Add an optional personal message
  5. Tap Send Invitation

Invitation details:

  • Invitations are valid for 14 days
  • You can resend expired invitations
  • If the person already has an Agathos Books account, they’ll also get an in-app notification

Library owners can promote trusted members to admin:

  1. Go to SettingsMembers
  2. Find the member you want to promote
  3. Tap the three-dot menu next to their name
  4. Tap Make Admin

Admins can approve join requests, manage book submissions, and create reading plans. See Understanding member roles for the full list of admin capabilities.

If you need to remove someone’s admin privileges:

  1. Go to SettingsMembers
  2. Find the admin
  3. Tap the three-dot menu
  4. Tap Remove Admin Role

They’ll remain a regular member with standard permissions.

Sometimes you need to remove someone from your library:

  1. Go to SettingsMembers
  2. Find the member
  3. Tap the three-dot menu
  4. Tap Remove from Library
  5. Confirm the removal

What happens when you remove a member:

  • They immediately lose access to your library
  • Any books they shared with your library are also removed
  • They can request to rejoin (for public libraries) or be re-invited

You cannot remove a member if:

  • They have active loans (books they’re borrowing or lending must be returned first)
  • They are the library owner
  • Respond to join requests promptly—People are excited to join and a quick response makes a great first impression
  • Use admins for large libraries—Share the workload of approving requests and managing books
