Notification Preferences

Control how you receive notifications about loan requests, due dates, and library activity.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap Notifications

At the top of the Notifications screen there’s a single Marketing & promotional emails switch. Turn it off to stop onboarding tips, reading nudges, personalized recommendations, and re-engagement emails.

Turning it off does not affect:

  • Essential account emails — security, sign-in, and billing messages always send.
  • Your weekly library digest — this is treated as an operational update, not marketing. Control it with the Recommendations category toggle below.
  • The notification categories below — loan requests, due dates, and library activity are controlled separately by the per-category toggles. (While marketing is off, the Recommendations email toggle is paused, since those emails won’t send.)

You can also unsubscribe from any marketing email using the Unsubscribe link in its footer (no sign-in required) — it updates this same setting. Changed your mind? Flip the switch back on, or use the Resubscribe link on the unsubscribe confirmation page.

At the top of the Notifications screen, pick the preset that matches how you want notifications:

PresetWhat You’ll Get
AllEvery notification type
ImportantLoans, due dates, and admin actions (email + push for time-sensitive items)
CustomizeFine-tune each category yourself

Choose Customize to open the Customize Notifications dialog and toggle each notification type across three channels:

ChannelBest For
EmailDetailed messages with action links
PushInstant alerts on your phone or in your browser
SMSUrgent fallback (requires a verified phone number and SMS consent)

The dialog groups settings into five categories. Each category has one or more notification types you can turn on or off per channel.

Book Lending — Requests, approvals, pickup reminders, and due-date nudges Library Updates — Library admin actions and content announcements Community & Social — Reactions and engagement from your reading community Recommendations — Personalized book picks and reading suggestions Account & Security — Account activity and security notifications

Action Required, Admin Actions, Security Alerts, and Login Notifications require at least one of email or SMS to stay on—these are critical for your account and loans. You’ll see a lock icon next to them.

Some types are labeled Push & in-app only (email and SMS toggles are disabled). Those confirmations and social updates never go to email or SMS regardless of your settings.

Push notifications need permission from your device or browser:

  1. On the Notifications screen, tap Enable next to “Enable push notifications”
  2. Accept the permission prompt from your device or browser
  3. Toggle push on for any notification types you want

If you previously denied permission, you’ll need to enable it in your device or browser settings before push toggles will work.

SMS requires a verified phone number and one-time consent:

  1. Go to Settings → Account and add a phone number if you haven’t already
  2. Verify it with the code we send you
  3. Back on the Notifications screen, toggle SMS on for any notification type—you’ll be asked to consent to SMS messages the first time

Standard message and data rates apply.
