Recommending Books

Recommend the books you love so other members of your libraries can discover them. Recommending is the main action — adding a written review is optional.

  1. Open any book’s detail page (tap a book cover), or find the book in your Collection
  2. On the book page, look for the In your community section — it shows who recommends the book, who wants to read it, who’s reading it, and who’s finished it
  3. Tap Add your recommendation at the top of the In your community section — the star fills immediately and the button becomes Recommended. In your Collection, tap the star on the book’s row instead
  4. A dialog opens where you can optionally add a short review (a quick blurb on why you’d recommend it)
  5. Tap Done to save your thoughts, or dismiss the dialog to skip — your recommendation stays either way

Tap the filled Recommended button again to edit your review or remove your recommendation. If you remove a recommendation that includes a review, you’ll be asked to confirm — the review is deleted along with it.

You can recommend a book at any point — you don’t have to be reading it or have finished it first. If no one has recommended a book yet, the community section invites you to be the first to recommend it — tapping that starts the same flow.

When your profile is visible to library members, your recommendations are shared with the members of the libraries you belong to:

  • The book’s page — the In your community section shows your face and name among the recommenders; tap the row to see everyone’s recommendations and reviews
  • The library “Recommended” rail — books recommended by members surface here so others can find them
  • Your profile — your recommended books appear in the Recommended section
  • Social proof on book cards — a book shows how many members recommend it (“N members recommend”)

If you’ve turned off Visible to Library Members in Settings → Privacy, your recommendations stay private to you.

Recommending is a public signal. If you just want to organize your own books privately, use Tags instead — every account comes with a Favorites tag (alongside “For My Kids” and “Gift Ideas”) that you can apply to any book. Tags are personal and aren’t shared with anyone. You can rename, delete, or add your own tags at any time.

To tag a book, open it (or open it from your Collection), use the menu, and choose Tags.
